Engineering Manager (CX)

HOVER is looking for an Engineering Manager to lead a team of talented full stack engineers within our Customer Experience (CX) Team. This is a team dedicated to providing HOVER’s customers with a stellar experience and innovative functionality.

The CX Team consists of driven product engineers who have built out an exceptional entry point into the customer journey through our React Native mobile application, web application, and backend system. While HOVER has developed a solid customer base and an exceptional product/market fit, this is an opportunity to join a team working hard to unlock the true potential of what we’re doing for Homeowners through delivering high quality applications built in a sustainable way.

You will contribute by: 

You will coach, lead and serve the members of the team. You will partner with engineers and technical leaders to ensure that the applications we support are stable, scalable, and maintainable, promoting practices like CI/CD and refactoring. You can support the execution of a team of engineers working through maintaining services, building tools, and integrating novel algorithms into the 3D reconstruction process. You will collaborate and define cross-team and strategic initiatives in partnership with leads across the company. You will advocate your team in front of your manager, other teams or executives.

Your background includes:  

  • 1+ years of experience leading teams as a manager or technical lead with direct reports
  • Passion for leading a rapidly growing, fast paced team that works on high business-impact projects
  • Experienced in leading and growing people both technically and professionally
  • 5+ years in software development, preferably in a full-stack capacity
  • Great product sense combined with strong technical communication skills and the ability to work effectively cross functionally with Product Managers, Designers and business stakeholders
  • Bonus points for experience in our tech stack: React, Ruby, Rails, React Native
  • Bonus points for experience managing a team building a rapidly iterating product

Your first 90 days:

By day 30, you will have:

  • Built a surface-level understanding of the team’s needs and goals
  • Met with all members/stakeholders of the team and multiple 1:1s with direct reports, beginning to build trust in and from the team
  • Potentially identified some quick wins for the team and implemented them
  • Paired with engineers on code delivery or tech-spec writing to get familiar with the codebase
  • Begun taking over responsibilities of hiring

By day 60, you will have:

  • Achieved a good understanding of team needs, and helped fill in some of the gaps
  • Continued to establish trust and credibility with the team as a technical leader
  • Taken the helm on filling headcount for your immediate team
  • Established relationships with peers in other teams

By day 90, you will have:

  • Begun identifying strategic or longer-term initiatives and crafted execution plans in conjunction with director and/or other managers
  • Built a solid understanding of your reports strengths, areas of improvement, and goals
  • Partnered closely with Product Manager(s) on helping validate/challenge their hypotheses
  • Started thinking proactively about issues in team execution, gaps in headcount, etc
  • Potentially identified some quick wins for the team and implemented them
