This storm season, we’re seeing more contractors expanding their traditionally retail businesses to include restoration jobs.
As an exterior contractor, getting to know the ins and outs of restoration can be a game-changer. Not only does this knowledge build trust with homeowners, it also allows you to confidently service as many damaged homes as possible after a storm.
We spoke with Adam Bensman, a sales and marketing consultant for roofing companies, who shared his best practices for approaching restoration projects. In this video, he’ll walk us through the nine steps for selling hail-damaged homes.
No time to watch? Here are some highlights:
- “Get your measurements and understand things like the depth of the soffits which may dictate whether or not there is one or two rows of ice and water shield.”
- “When you use HOVER upfront… [you’ll] have the roof measurements and 3D model ready for the adjuster. It allows you to build rapport with the insurance adjuster while he or she is on-site assessing the damage of the home and putting together what is known as the scope of loss.”
- “With you, the contractor, representing the homeowner, you’re doing all the heavy lifting. You’re meeting with the adjuster, you’re reviewing the paperwork. And all you do is sit down with the homeowner and say, “pick a shingle. Pick a color. We’ll take care of the rest.’ because everything is already agreed upon in that scope of loss.”
- “It’s important to document everything. Take photos!”
