At Hover, we love highlighting seasoned pros who are raising the bar for home improvement—and Tony Munoz, owner of Martin Home Exteriors in Jacksonville, FL, is one of them.
Martin Home Exteriors has been serving Florida homeowners since 1995, specializing in exterior upgrades that combine lasting performance with visual impact. We asked Tony to share tips and advice for homeowners considering renovating their homes.
What’s the #1 thing a homeowner should know before choosing a contractor?
“Look for experience and transparency. A contractor should be able to walk you through the process, provide clear timelines, and communicate openly from the start. Bonus points if they’ve been in business for decades like we have. We’ve been proudly serving Florida homeowners since 1995.”
How much should homeowners budget for a renovation?
“For exterior renovations like siding and windows, it depends on the size of the home and materials selected. On average, siding projects range from $15,000 - $30,000, while full window replacements can range between $8,000 - $20,000. For siding, we’ve found that the quickest way to get an accurate estimate is by using Hover. We can assess a home without needing to drive (sometimes for hours) to get to an appointment.”
What’s the most popular renovation homeowners are asking for right now?
“In Florida specifically, homeowners are realizing how important choosing the right siding is. We’re seeing a lot of vinyl and wood removal and replacement with Hardie siding, which holds up incredibly well against the state’s humidity and climate challenges.”
Top tips for homeowners thinking of starting a project?
- “Know your priorities.”
- “Ask questions early, about timelines, materials, and warranties.”
- “Trust the process. Good renovations take time to do right, especially when weather’s involved (can’t fight a Florida storm).”
What are the top three resources that help you get the job done?
- Hover - “For estimation and visualizers for clients”
- Buildertrend - “Keeps our projects, timelines, and customer communication running smoothly from start to finish”
- Our in-house team’s expertise - “Decades of hands-on experience goes further than any app ever could.”
How are tariffs and increasing material costs affecting projects? Do you have any advice for homeowners navigating uncertain economic times?
“Rising material costs and supply chain issues have definitely impacted project timelines and pricing industry-wide. We always aim to lock in estimates as early as possible and be transparent with clients about potential changes. For homeowners navigating these times,
our advice is: don’t wait too long. Prices rarely go down, and delaying a necessary project can cost more in the long run. Planning ahead and working with a contractor who communicates clearly is key.”
How has Hover Instant Design helped you with projects?
“With Hover, we’re able to get estimates remotely for clients we might’ve had to skip in the past solely because of distance. The design tool eliminates the need for the old-school paint swatching process and helps homeowners actually see their exterior options before committing. It also helps us upsell by showing homeowners what their house could look like with different siding designs, which makes decision-making a lot more visual and confident on their end.”
Top material(s) and/or color(s) homeowners are asking for right now?
“Hardie siding is by far the most requested material. Homeowners in Florida are prioritizing durability, and Hardie stands up well to humidity and storms. It really is the type of material you can get and forget. In terms of colors, we’re seeing a strong demand for breezy, coastal colors. We’re seeing a lot of interest in light blue/green shades, colors like Swimming by Sherwin-Williams and Tahitian Sky by Behr are showing up in more and more designs. They’re soft, inviting, and work especially well in Florida!”
